Happy July people! I had more than a few things pop up across the weekend so I’m calling this curated bunch of thoughts my “soft takes”. Take a deep breath and take what you need.
COMING HOME VS. GETTING MY SHIT TOGETHER
Whew, baby. The last handful of weeks has been not so great decision making for me and this weekend I just craved getting my shit together. Making better choices in the grand scheme of things. Then I started a meditation course from my angel Sarah Blondin and it hit me. It’s not about getting my shit together, it’s simply about coming home to myself.
+ Eliminating distractions = coming home to myself
+ Making decisions from a grounded place rather than under the influence or out of survival = coming home to myself
+ Keeping promises I’ve made to ME = coming home to myself
I could go on and on. So I’m retiring the phrase “getting my shit together” and replacing with “I’m coming home to myself”
YOU HAVE TIME
I read this on Threads “Repeating ‘I have enough time’ throughout your day will change your day” and listen. As someone who is all about efficiency, checking things off a list and getting stuff done - this has really done wonders for my nervous system. It cuts myself off in the middle of rushing and anxiety.
It’s really a word on the day-to-day and also in the larger picture. It’s not about procrastinating or slowing way down, it’s about cutting off anxiety in the middle of it doing its thing. It’s mental. It brings you back into the moment. It reminds you that this is a marathon not a sprint.
ONLY GONNA POP IF YOU DO YOUR PART
As I was voice journaling and talking about coming home to myself (previously ‘getting my shit together’ lol), I said these words to myself. Shani, the things you are desire are only gonna pop if you do your part. Maybe that’s also a word for someone here. I truly trust and believe that my effort will be matched with favor and alignment.
BRENE BROWN
Picking back up one of Brene Brown’s early classics before she was popping all over the internet: I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn't): Making the Journey from "What Will People Think?" to "I Am Enough"
MADISON RYANN WARD
75% of my music consumption has legit been this angel (she’s from Oklahoma, shoutout to the hometown). She’s currently doing like a Christian R&B and her music and spirit just feels gooood. Here’s a full live set on YouTube that stays on my TV at home.
THREADS
Lastly, I love love love the social platform Threads (it’s like Twitter/X but connected to Instagram). Dropping some of my favorites lately.
Whew. Cause how much of your hurt feelings are coming from you replaying stuff in your mind?
HELLO! If you’re single or in a relationship, do some stuff for your dang self, by your dang self. It’s a whole vibe.
A word.
Another word.
All I’m going to say is, therapy honey. THERAPY.
Take care of yourself, until next time.
